I was fortunate enough to go on a week-long trip to China with my employer for the development of Halloween costumes for 2012. Here are some of the pictures I took on the adventure ::
- A view of Guangzhou looking out from our hotel room
- guangzhou market
- Lace store in Guangzhou fabric market
- One of the cleaner buildings in the GZ fabric market :: halls and halls of fabric store cubicles
- On the 2nd story of a GZ fabric market
- Looking down over a very busy intersection in the center of the market
- There are plenty of trees, most freeways are outlined in beautiful trees and flower beds. Also the buses have mandibles :]
- Chinese people - Y U No graffiti on anything?
- Decrepit building next door to one of the smaller factories we work with
- Decrepit street by small factory
- Interesting building shape :: this picture seems to be out of sequence...
- Finishing room in the smaller factory in Guangzhou
- There's a pulley set up in order to move large rolls of fabric up several floors in the building
- Factory workers loading the rolls onto the pulley
- cluttered pattern room in small factory
- This is how they store the bulk fabrics, some cut pieces bundled here too. Clearly this is the best environment for white fabric.
- Mega sewing room
- Most buildings in Guangzhou had gardens on the roofs. This one is across from the factory in the country.
- Saw these beetles outside of a restaurant in Guangzhou: asked for one...
- ...received a mountain of cooked beetles. Most of the table helped to eat them. These were too much work for such small amounts of food. I should try mealworms next.
- restaurants always have their fish out on display
- A nicer factory in Guangzhou. More organized. Part daycare.
- Nicer factory in Guangzhou :: cutting table
- View from the window of a super nice office building of one of the factories we work with
- The new tallest buildng in the world. See how it's shape is twisted - at night it lights up and there are blue and purple stripes that spiral up and down like a barbershop pole
- A ridiculous window display in Guangzhou
- Badass display at a linen store in Guangzhou :: I love that headboard!
- Another display at the linen store
- Cutting Ninja dominating over 9000 plies of fabric!
- Super nice factory in Yiwu, see how the workers have trendy hair and more interesting clothes, some even wear high heels to work
- sewing strands of fake hair for wigs
- Rad horse sculpture in our hotel in Yiwu
- A decorative fish head at a restaurant in Yiwu
- I saw this gas mask above the closet in the Yiwu hotel, thought I'd see what other goodies were inside the closet...
- ...and jackpot! A basket full of lingerie and condoms!
- Here's the view from the hotel in Yiwu :: not many tall buildings like Guangzhou
- Another view from the hotel :: the mountains there are beautiful
- We went to this restaurant in Yiwu that was a huge jungle inside, and all of the staff were on roller blades! Even the servers zipped through with huge trays of food
- Parking at the Keqiao fabric market :: Car is blocked? no problem, the parking attendant just rolls the double-parked cars out of the way
- There are buildings going up all over China, you can't go anywhere without seeing developments
- Keqiao fabric market :: not an amazing selection considering how expansive it is!
- Chinese window-washing daredevilry! Notice the lack of safety harnesses
- This guy is cutting thick fur using a heated piece of metal, which melts the ends and reduces fuzz
- Futian market :: land of toys and accessories
- A wall of socks :: the orane one looks like a monkey licking his butt o.0
- Ordered a cappuchino at lunch :: coffee in China is serious business
- Didn't order this, but still very curious what it means
- One of the few (wild) insects I saw in China, there weren't many birds there either
- Futian market
- so many toys
- huge model of the Futian market
- huge screen at the main entrance of the market
- Futian market entrance looking up and out
- Shirt dispensers in the market, just in case
- Back at the hotel in Yiwu, here's the stairway in the lobby
- Yiwu hotel :: waterfall painting in lobby
- Yiwu hotel entrance
- Yiwu hotel :: decorations in hallway
- This was taken on the fast train from Yiwu to Jiaxing :: see all of the buildings in the background
- view of the country while riding the fast train
- we got up to 200km/hr or about 124mph on the fast train
- some cute houses on the way to Jiaxing
- odd Willy Wonka house
- Cool building in Hangzhou
- Beautiful lake in Hangzhou (we only had time to drive by it)
- Back in Guangzhou, another view of the biggest intersection I've ever seen
- A view of the parking lot landscaping at the Guangzhou hotel
- Close up of the development across the street from the hotel in Guangzhou
- Awesome coffee cart
- some restaurants in China are like zoos, there are so many creatures on display
- yummy fishes
- A huge crab imported from Japan, this guy is over $500 USD!
- Here's that crab with my boot for size comparison
- Went into the country in Guangdong to meet with a printer and they took us to this beautiful restaurant
- Business parties usually eat in private rooms
- another view of the plants outside of the restaurant
- look at the spout on the hot water pots! these guys would come in and refill out tea every few minutes
- this was the most delicious tea! Our hosts were kind enough to ask the restaurant for a few baggies of the tea to give to us!
- On our last day in Guangzhou we finally went shopping, this is a random Darth Vader / Adidas shirt I saw
