102809 Costume for My Velcroe

I made a costume for Emily of My Velcroe, for the Halloween show at HM157.  It was actually really miraculous – I made it in only 3 days, with all recycled fabrics, and only one fitting the night before the show!  This was the first time I had made high-waisted shorts, and I’m quite pleased with the results ::

She wanted a 1920′s-esque bathing suit and a jacket with a detachable cape.  The cape was already removed by the time I got my camera on the right setting :(  I had the striped fabric left over from the Absinthe Faerie show I helped do costumes on.  Emily found the fabric for her jacket at a thrift store, it’s a really intricate knit of a bubbly pastel jungle.  The jacket is lined with pinstripe fabric that was going to be thrown away at my work.  One person’s trash, sucka!

Oh yeah, her shirt has a bow tie too!  And tails in the back :)  So cute!

I summon orb weavers

Clearly, spiders <3 me.  I have finely honed arachno-alluring prowess developed over years of intensely looking for them anywhere I am.  Now they just come to me.  It’s awfully convenient :)

I sadly moved away from the orb weaver haven and ended up in daddy-long-leg breeding grounds.  There were at least 13 adult spiders living in our bathroom (yes, just in the bathroom…I want to have a contest like those ones where you guess how many jelly beans there are in some jar and you win the jar, but I don’t think we could get an accurate count of the spiders inhabiting HM157) here before I took this picture ::

In person she looked cycloptic, carrying around her sack of recently hatched eggs in her mouth, it was effing adorable!  The next day the little ones were out on their own, all spread out under the bathroom cabinet ::

Aaaahhh!  They’re SOOoo cute!  Look at all those little legs! <333  It’s a bit of a shift to go from watching juicy, colorful, hairy orb weavers to watching crusty old daddy long legs, so the babies really livened things up.  A couple days after those hatched an orb weaver showed up in the bathroom door frame, I suspect out of jealousy ;)  Someone destroyed most of his web innocently one night when walking into the bathroom doing the sleepy-time shuffle, so the next night he moved to another door frame of equally high traffic…I got a crappy picture before my battery died ::

At least you can see how immaculate his web was.  Totally awesome.  I moved him onto some bushes outside where he will hopefully be able to mate and create a rainbow of mini-hims before being eaten by something…

On an equally spidery note, I’m going to be selling Halloween costumes at the art walk in Santa Ana this weekend!

That means if you live in the Los Angeles /  Orange County area and want some Insidious Clothes, you can actually try stuff on!  Yay!  It turns out I have a lot of stuff that I don’t have pictures of, so the internet has never even seen it!   And I made a few extra spooky things specifically for this event.

:: Here’s a little om nom nom of a few costumes that will be there ::
